Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the inspection & testing of in-service portable electrical equipment t o ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations (EAWR) 1989.

The in-service PAT inspection of electrical equipment involves a visual inspection of the equipment, cables, verification of earthing continuity (where required), and testing the quality of insulation between the current carrying parts (cables), plus any exposed metal that may be touched.

I offer this service to commercial and domestic customers.

ONLY equipment or cables which connect to 50 volt or higher should be PAT inspected. Low voltage items such as laptops are exempt, however for peace of mind these items can be given a visual inspection (if requested), this would be treated as a separate chargeable test.

Be aware of PAT testers that are not clear on there 'charge per item' rule, as they can end up 'testing' exempt items just to increase their profits.
This kettle is made up of two parts, both are connecting to 230 volts and each requires a separate PAT inspection.
Devices under 50 volt DC do not need to be tested, items such as mobile phones, laptops and their leads would not be required to be tested.
If requested a (chargeable) visual inspection can be conducted.
The power supply cable / lead connected to 230 volts would be treated as separate item, each requiring their own test.
